Both sides in the Blu Ray-HD DVD format war are passionate and vocal about their format being better. Here are 5 reasons why Blu Ray is the superior format: 1. Storage space. At present, a dual layer Blu Ray disc holds 50 Gb of data, compared to HD DVD's 30 Gbs. More storage space means more room for audio and video. 2. Studio support. Sony has grabbed more exclusive studio support than Toshiba has. Disney, Fox and MGM are all Blu Ray exclusive. 3. Rental presence. Chances are that if you go into your local Blockbuster Video, they will carry Blu Ray, but not HD DVD.
4. Scratch resistant disc coating. Not only are you less likely to be able to scratch one of your Blu Ray discs, you have a better chance of being able to watch that Blu Ray you got from Netflix or Blockbuster. 5. Mindshare. Sony has done a better job selling their format. Joe Sixpack is more likely to think that Blu Ray is better than HD DVD, because Sony has done a better job disseminating their Blu Ray propaganda. Ask any Best Buy associate. Obviously there is more to the format war than 5 reasons why one is better than the other. Sit tight, we'll be talking about Blu Ray vs. HD DVD until one format goes away. Neither format seems capable of delivering the killing stroke, so this could drag on for a while. |
